Prekindergarten Qualification Criteria

To enroll in Prekindergarten in Conroe ISD, a child must be four years old on or before September 1 of the current school year and meet at least one of the following qualification criteria set by the Texas Legislature.

Educationally Disadvantaged

Military

Military

Child is eligible to participate in the National Free and Reduced Lunch Program and parents should complete the NSLP Application.

Child of an active duty member of the Armed Forces (including state military forces or a reserve component).

Child of a member of the Armed Forces who was injured or killed while on active duty.

Required Documents:

  • Current paycheck stub(s) showing one month of income and documentation of any income from all household members (i.e. unemployment, worker's comp., disability, etc.)

  • Current tax return if self-employed

A child of a household receiving SNAP, TANF, or Indian Reservation Food Distribution benefits is automatically eligible.

  • Current eligibility letter required for SNAP and TANF

Medicaid is NOT an automatic qualifier. Income must be verified to qualify.

Required Documents:

  • Verification of the student's US Department of Defense (DoD) photo identification for children of active duty service members.

  • Or, verification of the military member's DoD photo identification and documentation that the student is a child of the military member

*Copies of DoD identification will not be made.

Required documents:

One of the following:

  • Copy of death certificate

  • Copy of Purple Heart Orders

  • Copy of official letter from commander

  • Copy of letter from U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

  • Documentation that service member is MIA

Foster Care

Star of Texas Award

Child is or has ever been in the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

Child of a person who has received the Star of Texas Award as :a peace officer, a firefighter, or an emergency medical first responder. This does not include all peace officers.

Required Documents:

  • Verification letter of Prekindergarten eligibility from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services

Required Documents:

  • Copy of the resolution (certificate) awarded to the parent of the child

Limited English Proficiency

Homeless

Child is unable to speak or comprehend the English language.

Child is experiencing homelessness.

Eligibility is based on Emergent Bilingual identification:

During registration if a language other than English is indicated on the Home Language Survey, the child must be administered the PreLAS for oral language proficiency.

An LPAC meeting for emergent bilingual identification will be held. Only the LPAC has the authority to identify the child as an Emergent Bilingual.

Eligibility is based on homelessness identification:

Eligibility is based on the district's homeless education liaison identifying the student as homeless (regardless of the residence of the child, either parent of the child, or of the child's guardian or other person having lawful control of the child.)

Kindergarten Enrollment

To enter the kindergarten program in Conroe ISD, a child must be five years old on or before September 1 of the current school year.

Documents Required:

  • Proof of age and identity: birth certificate, passport, school ID card, military ID, hospital birth record, adoption record, or other legal document that establishes identity

  • Proof of residence: current utility bill (water, gas, electricity) or lease/rental agreement with parent/guardian's name and address)

  • Social Security Card of the child

  • Current immunization records

  • Identification document of parent/guardian enrolling student
